School Committees

Eco Committee

The Eco committee are committed to maintaining and progressing to are next green flag award. We have planned and already achieved a number of our Eco action plans this year Link Here we have successfully run a number of clothes swaps for both the Dylan Thomas and wider community including our feeder primary schools with the aim to promote pre loved clothing and to reuse  clothing rather than sending it to landfills, and we will be further developing this by working with dragon boxes in order to sustainably dispose of any clothing we do not want.

We also continue to develop our school garden with the aim of reducing our school food miles by growing fresh produce to be used in cooking lessons.

As a result of our environmental review, we believe that we need to reduce our plastic waste in the school. We have been successful with promoting our reusable water bottles with our class charts rewards system and we are looking to bring in reusable hot drinks cups.

The Eco committee have also worked hard to encourage pupils to use the correct bins in school through assemblies.

If you have any questions or ideas to put to the committee, you can write them down and put them in the Eco box in the upstairs PSO room or you can use the link below to fill out a form.

The LGBTQIA+ Committee

As a result of a whole school audit on LGBTQIA+ it was found that although there are a large number of Allies to the LGBTQIA+ community within our school, it is also felt by pupils that there is homophobic bullying. This Highlights the importance of having an LGBTQIA+ committee that is made of Allies from different year group that want to make our school a safe and happy place for all regardless of your gender or sexuality.

Pupils from the committee have been working hard to educate themselves as well as delivering assemblies to inform their peers on matters relating to LGBTQIA+ matters.

If you want to report any homophobic bullying or you have any questions or ideas to put to the committee, you can write them down and put them in the LGBTQIA+ box in the upstairs PSO room or you can use the link below to fill out a google form.

The BAME Committee

We believe at Dylan Thomas that strength lies in differences and for that reason we believe having a BAME group is important to ensure that pupils from different cultures and religions feel safe and happy at our school. One of the issues that was brought to the BAME committee was that there was often racial bullying of pupils with English as and additional language. The committee felt it would be a good idea to teach pupils and staff their home language. We have been running language lessons once a month and so far, have learnt, Romanian, Kurdish, Arabic, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Hindi.

If you want to report any racial bullying or you have any questions or ideas to put to the committee, you can write them down and put them in the BAME box in the upstairs PSO room or you can use the link below to fill out a google form. (form)
