ALN Information

Universal Provision

We are committed to providing an appropriate high quality education for all pupils across the school. We believe that all pupils should have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which is accessible and provides inclusive opportunities in all aspects of school life. We aspire for our pupils to be healthy, confident, creative and ambitious learners. Our staff regularly access training in Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and incorporate best practice strategies within their curriculum planning and resources using a blend of adaptive teaching methods. Our continuous drive is to support pupils in overcoming barriers on their road to achievement through collaborative approaches.

Targeted provision and Additional Support

Our ALN Team liaise with outside agencies and professionals to make sure we can provide a holistic support network for pupils and their families. These include Educational Psychologists, Behaviour Support Team, Teachers for Sensory Impairments Child and Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Speech and Language Therapists, Careers Wales, Early Help Hub (EHH).

Enhanced Learning Provision (ELP)

The ELP is our own school-based provision for pupils in Year 7 & 8 who may need access to additional support with their social communication skills, emotional regulation and learning. As pupils prepare for transition, the ALNCo and Key Stage Coordinator work closely with the primary schools and families to identify pupils who would benefit from having additional support with transition to secondary school.

Specialist Teaching Facilities

The school has 2 teaching facilities for pupils with Moderate to Severe Learning difficulties (MLD/SLD) and another purpose built facility for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and other co-occurring conditions. Both facilities have smaller group-learning environments with a high ratio of staff to support the diverse range of needs. Pupils are supported to access a balance of mainstream classes and encouraged to actively participate in school life. Admission to the STFs are through the Local Authority’s Additional Needs Panel.
