Students in key stage 3 cover a range of activities which give a balanced PE programme providing the pupils with the opportunity to develop their own physical literacy and healthy lifestyle. The programme of study includes a wide range of activities.
The list below gives an example of the typical activities a pupil may take part in during key stage 3.
Rugby, Football, Netball, Hockey, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Basketball, Gymnastics, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Fitness, Dance, Yoga, Weight training, Softball, Rounders, Athletics.
All of the above activities continue in key stage 4 with the addition of alternative activities such as Trampolining, Boxercise, Exercise to Music, Urban Walking and many other alternative forms of physical activity.
At key stage 4 there is the option to pick GCSE PE or a Level 1 & 2 in Sport. Both qualifications are very popular with both students who wish to follow a career in sport and leisure, or those who just enjoy physical activity and wish to follow a healthy active lifestyle. We collaborate with a range of partners to offer an extensive out of school hours learning timetable. We run teams in traditional sports such as Football and Netball and have a full fixture list. In addition to traditional sports, Dylan Thomas has also proved to be a successful school in alternative sports such as Badminton and Basketball with success at regional and national level.
Despite being a small school we often pack a punch above our weight. We support our students in all activities and have many students have achieved representative honours in a range of sporting activities.
We are a school for all and offer a wide range of activities at all levels. We have pupils participating at elite levels and others taking part just to have fun with their friends. No matter what the reason for taking part there is an activity to suit everyone at Dylan Thomas and a member of staff keen to support.
